Bodega Bay Boys

The Boys Discover The Beauty of Bodega Bay

Tired of just sitting at home and playing squads on Fortnite? If you are having the Fortnite blues, then this is just the story for you! Sit back and learn how my friends and I beat the Fortnite blues.

With summer winding to a close and the hot weather starting to fade away, I found myself being outside less and less. I was not the only one spending more time on Fortnite than outside; this epidemic had infected my entire friend group. This summer was supposed to be the summer that my friends and I spent all day, everyday outside. However, as days turn to weeks, my friend group and I just seemed to have lost interest in our Marco-Polo games. We craved to do something outside, but we just did not know what to do...until one day.

My former roommate Neal had just come up to Rohnert Park to visit from Los Angeles (as that's where he lives there now), and all he could talk about was how incredible the beaches are in Los Angeles. Beach this, beach that, all Neal could talk about were those beaches. So my friend group and I devised a plan to get Neal to stop talking about the beach. The plan was simple: we all just go to a beach. Since we live in Northern California, beaches are on the harder side to find, but luckily Rohnert Park is only 30 miles from Bodega Bay

With all of the boys tightly packed into two separate cars, we embarked on our journey to the beach! The drive to Bodega Bay itself is breathtaking and takes the beach-goer through a myriad of wineries and rolling foothills. The specific spot in Bodega that we went to is called Bodega Bay Head Trail, where the hiking trail is parallel to the beachfront. To access the trail, you must first walk down from the look out point and onto the actual beach. Unlike beaches in Southern California, the Northern California beaches do not have finely ground sand. Instead the sand is on the rockier side, meaning it does not stick everywhere, which is extremely nice.

My group and I found a cove on the other side of a sand bluff in which we turned into a "home base" of sorts. A few of us then decided to trek further up the trail to see what was ahead. This trail had almost a magical feel to it, as if we were crawling down the rabbit hole from Alice in Wonderland. While on the trail, our group encountered green slime that resembled radioactive goop, incredible views of the waves crashing, and even witnessed some deer soaking up the sun while on their evening graze.

After linking back up with the rest of the group at the cove, the temperature began to drop steadily. Some members of my group did not dress accordingly, but to their luck I came prepared with extra jackets and blankets. A word of advice to the reader: if you do go on this trail, come prepared for the weather! The temperature drops quickly so come prepared for the elements. With the group all warm, the best moment was saved for last. As the sun was setting across the horizon, one could really see the natural beauty California has to offer. Once the sun had set, the group enjoyed stargazing on the beach below. A day well spent with great company in the incredible outdoors. If you are interested in staying over night in the surrounding Bodega Bay area, there is plenty of beach front camping sites available up the coast at Dillion's Beach.
